Umeå Institute of Design educates industrial designers for the future. Their competences and skills to come up with innovative results practises through the education with contemporary problems in real situations and contexts. Industrial design deals with the interaction between the user, the context and the artefact. Key factors to create innovative concepts are the holistic and user-focussed and problem-framing design process, testing and evaluating ideas with models and sketches and an analytic and reflective conceptualisation.

All degree projects have been performed in collaboration with external part and initiated, planned, implemented and communicated by students. A professional industrial designer has tutored them to provide updated and current knowledge.

This year's degree-work shows a wide range of important and topical areas of industrial design can bring to quality for a sustainable outcome. The results are reasonable and attractive solutions to essential problems which affect us all.
